Community LINC is proud to present Deanna and Greg Graves with the 2018 Hometown Hero Award!

The Hometown Hero Award was established to illuminate the extraordinary impact of

individual, couple, or organization has made to the Greater Kansas City area for the

betterment of the lives of our most vulnerable citizens.

Kansas City has a unique ability to draw one into the fold, and make the city feel like home. This is what happened to South Dakota natives Deanna and Greg Graves when they moved to the Kansas City area in 1980. Greg had taken a job with engineering firm Burns & McDonnell, where he would eventually become CEO. During their tenure, Greg and Deanna’s names have become symbolic of Kansas City community and philanthropy. For the Graves it wasn’t a choice to give back but a personal expectation, and give back to their adopted hometown they did. “Philanthropy is more than a calling, it is a way of life. To give back to a community there must first be a belief in that community as a whole.” Greg Graves describes himself as very blessed. He has been blessed with Deanna, his children, and the ability to give back at a level that the average person cannot. Through their philanthropic efforts the Graves have been able to touch the lives of Kansas Citians in many ways and through many different organizations. Both Deanna and Greg have been honored for their efforts throughout the city. In 2015, Greg was named Kansas Citian of the Year by the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, and in 2017 received the Centurions Leadership Award. Deanna has been honored as Philanthropist of the Year and Mother of the Year. Together they have been honored by Starlight Theatre with a Star of Honor, the Adele Hall Spirit of Caring Award, and received the Catalyst Award from the University of Kansas Hospital. They both donate their time by serving on boards all around Kansas City. Deanna serves on the board of Hope House, while Greg serves on the University of Kansas Hospital and United Missouri Bank boards. Together they serve on the board of the Kansas City Repertory Theatre, with Greg serving as chair. Accolades, board service, and event chairs are all well and good, but Greg and Deanna have made additional efforts to pass their philanthropic beliefs on to their children. Together with their three children, they have established the Graves Family Foundation, ensuring that the legacy started by Deanna and Greg will be able to continue on through their children and someday their grandchildren. It is this family element to their philanthropic initiatives that will allow the Graves to endure as pillars in Kansas City. We look forward to honoring their legacy at the 2018 Rent Party

Mark your calendar for the 2018 Rent Party on October 6, 2018 at the Westin Hotel at Crown Center! Join us for a fun-filled night of auctions, dinner, drinks, dancing and an opportunity to raise critical funding for homeless families!

For three decades, Community LINC has delivered housing and supportive services to nearly 4,246 homeless families representing over 14,000 individuals in Greater Kansas City.  Our approach is to drive communal change from homelessness to homefullness.

Rent parties originated in 1920s Harlem in the heart of New York City. Tenants hired a musician or band to play for the neighborhood or building and then passed the hat to raise money for their rent. Naming our signature fundraising event in celebration of the rent parties is a perfect fit for Community LINC. We gather at the Rent Party to celebrate life in the heart of Kansas City and pay the rent for the families we serve as they transition from homelessness into self-sufficiency.

We invite you to support the Rent Party to ensure that every child and every family has the opportunity to thrive!  For more information, contact Tiffani Kintchen at 816-389.8255 or tkintchen@communitylinc.org.
